What Is The Key To Success?

Whatever it is we want to achieve in life, the only thing stopping us from getting there is Ourselves, all the excuses in the world won’t change this. It’s easy to just quit in life, decide it’s all too difficult or expensive. Nobody ever said it was going to be easy, but the successful people in the world never give up.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life”. Steve Jobs

“I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse”. Florence Nightingale

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”. Sir Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Churchil l
The key to success is determination and persistence, quitting is never the answer. but that’s exactly what many of us do. And our expectations can more often than not be extremely naive, this especially happens in the business world, we set ourselves impossible goals which will inevitably set us up for a fall.

The times I’ve seen people starting out online claiming they’ll be millionaires in a month, only to fail or quit. That isn’t to say they didn’t have the potential to achieve their goal, it is the time frame that was the problem. Having goals is very healthy and positive, but they have to be sensible and realistic goals.

A Closer Look At Goal Setting

A much more sensible approach to goal setting would be for example, aiming to have a successful online business in one year, making regular sales and providing a modest full time income.

Now we need to break this down even further and create some objectives. What would we need to do to achieve our new goal of creating a successful online business in one year.

  • Choose a Niche (A Product/ Service)
  • Set Up A Domain.
  • Build A Website (Or Learn How To)
  • Learn And Understand Keywords.
  • Create Site Content (Articles, Posts And Images)
  • Learn And Apply SEO Techniques.
  • Generate Traffic/Customers To Your Site.

Now, this is just an example, I’d always advise that you create a plan or what I like to call a Road Map that is personal to you, this is your journey after all.

Write it down, read it and take it in, then understand it takes action to bring this list to reality. You’ll often hear people saying that writing down goals will bring success, this is not true, positive action brings success. Writing it down is just the plan, putting the plan into action is what matters.

Having a Road Map is a key element to success, it means we have a definite direction and set of objectives, we’re not going into this blind.

As I work through my personal objectives, I like to tick them off, knowing I’ve achieved something.

Now we need to break things down even further, we need to make a daily plan, setting ourselves small daily goals that will lead to our short term objectives and long term goals. One of the main obstacles for many people including myself is “Procrastination”. Why bother doing today, what we can do tomorrow? We’re all guilty of it, but the problem is, every time we do this we are creating negativity and the more we use excuses it becomes habit forming and nothing ever gets done.

Motivation & Success

I find by starting out with smaller objectives, I get things done, I don’t get brain drain and I’m way more productive. Keep that goal in your sights, and when the procrastinator within speaks, brush him/her aside and get down to business, you owe it to yourself. Completing objectives and goals is extremely satisfying and is completely deserved and brings us one step closer to success.

Why Are Goals Important?

They give us something to aim for and focus on, they help us to pursue our dreams and give us a sense of direction and purpose. They also improve our quality of life, lead us to success and fulfillment.

The first (and more often than not) important move, is to take that first step, this could be absolutely anything, from an idea, a thought or a vision. But to get there we need that Road Map To Success.

  • Put These Goals Down In Black And White: By writing them down we give ourselves a real concise plan of action. Set dates (realistic ones) and once achieved take a short break, before moving onto the next.
  • Worries And Concerns: Talk to people, friends relatives, share your ideas, plans and goals, but don’t let anything or anybody put you off if your goals are realistic. Research whatever obstacles you come across, there is almost always an answer or a work around, but don’t let it stop you. Treat it as a goal itself, or a challenge, then once you’ve beaten it you’ve accomplished something.
  • Sub Goals: By breaking our long term goals into smaller goals they become easier to face and work towards, don’t let the challenge put you off, face it head on.
  • Research And Study: Learning is fun, don’t be put off by the prospect of having to study something new. With the internet, everything we need is right at our fingertips, there really is no excuse for saying “I can’t”.
  • Keep Notes: Not only as reminders of things that need to be done, but also of your successes and achievements. A diary can be useful, set certain times of the day to perform certain tasks, get into a routine, this can help overcome procrastination.

How To Overcome Failure And Achieve Success

I will admit I’m guilty of this one myself, so often throughout my life I’ve hit a setback or had to deal with a failure and simply given up, without even evaluating the why’s and hows. Had I known things back then that I know now, things may well have turned out very different, isn’t hindsight wonderful?

Failure isn’t an indication that we are incapable, it could simply mean we didn’t put in enough research, approached the project the wrong way, gave up too soon, didn’t put in the amount of effort needed.

Life is full of setbacks and failures, what’s important is how we handle this and deal with it, if you truly want to be successful in whatever it is you are pursuing, you have to get get back up and try again. The successful people in the world, the achievers that we respect and admire, didn’t achieve this overnight, they too faced similar setback and obstacles as we all do.

Failure is actually good for us, it is a learning experience, it teaches us that everything we want in life has to be earned, if it was all handed to us on a plate we would have no sense of achievement or self respect. When success does finally come your way, you have a reason to reward yourself, and enjoy

The key to success is determination and persistence – The moment you stop, you fail.

Confidence Is Infectious

Successful people tend to be confident and motivated, this inspires people and draws them to you. Lets face it, who wants to work with a negative misery? Sure we all have our good and bad days, it’s how we deal with them that matters and if you’re working with other people or leading people, you need to be setting an example.

Exercise is good for the mind too, I go for a 5 mile run a few times a week, it clears my mind, helps me focus and I feel healthy. When working an internet business we spend many hours sat in our chairs staring at our screens or tablets, this is far from healthy and balance is important. A healthy body is just as important as a healthy mind and they tend to work together, if one is wrong it will affect the other. Share this information with your team, your referrals and associates, they will see this as a strong leadership quality.

In closing

All the ideas here can be used in many ways and can help anybody, we all need to feel motivated in life and I hope they help you in your personal journey. If you have a motivational story you’d like to share, or have an opinion on this article, please leave a comment.

Wonderful post! I absolutely believe that it is imperative to write down your goals and set a schedule to do each. Besides giving you a goal to look at it gets your subconscious working towards achieving those goals which makes it a little easier for you when you attempt it.

Also if you develop the positive habit of writing your goals, acting on the plans to get them done and rewarding yourself when they are complete, I believe that will ultimately lead to success.

I recently took a bold step in this direction and made a decision to stick it no matter what. I have not regretted making that choice, each day now has purpose and goals in mind I’m working towards.

This post should serve as a guide to all that success is indeed possible, and the attitude you possess will either take you there or leave you there.

Thanks for your contribution and best wishes to you.

    hi Jay!
You make excellent points for one to have success. I am a big fan of breaking down goals in smaller goals so they are attainable. I do that all the time. as well as take notes. I take so much notes so I do not forget anything! I think you have a point that it is about finding balance, including in our projects. I make sure to take the time to exercise daily to keep a clear mind. I get lots of good ideas while I am at the gym 🙂 but it is also a time to clear my mind, which is important

Yes, I do believe that we all have the Key to Success. Just as we have the freedom to chose our paths. I believe that in order to go anywhere we need to figure out the directions. Your post gives us all a reminder that to create goals, we need to include timelines, realistic expectations and a have a good support system along the way.

    Great piece.

    1. Jay (Post author)

Hi Lin, the majority of people looking to make an online income see it as a job, when it is actually going into business. They don’t realize their success or failure is down to them, perhaps more leadership is required?

Great post on what is the key to success. Got a lot of valuable information from this. How important you think is the SEO in order to success in online business? Thanks a lot for writing this out 🙂

    1. Jay (Post author)

Hi Jes,good SEO is what will define if your site gets seen or not, without it you will be running a virtual ghost town. Google looks for good SEO & it is something we all need to focus on & research.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 🙂

Great article. I forgot who said it but I have always liked the idea that I love failure, because with out it I would never learn anything. I try to look at my failures like this. Learn something new from them and dont let it happen again.

    1. Jay (Post author)

Hi Marc, that’s a good comment & I can relate to it, there was a time I expected failure & never tried to get passed it, I try to see things in a more positive light now. Of course I still have my struggles as we all do, but I’ve made big changes & worked on it.

The writing shows the amount of time and hard work you put into this, Jay.
Mentioning our false or failures and learning from them is a good point here.
You put it kindly mentioning being lazy, LOL!! Hey, guilty as charged, I’m no angel.
The use of your pics and the follow of the writing is a great read.

    1. Jay (Post author)

Hi Larry, I think we all set ourselves up for failure by creating impossible goals, we all mess up, doesn’t mean we should give up. Brush yourself off & start over I say 🙂
